We Care Ministry Prayer Circle

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

St. Peter Claver’s We Care Ministry Prayer Circle members invite you to join us for our gathering on Saturday, September 11 in the church hall from 8:30-11 a.m. This is the opportunity to meet the members of our church family prayer team, to consider being one of our prayer-ers, and to learn about the broader vision to care for our church and its families through visitation, and distribution of Communion to the sick and the homebound.  Last minute guests are welcome, but we don’t want anyone to go hungry, so RSVP or contact either of us to learn more. Jazz Fest Honoring Mr. Melvin Carter, Sr.

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Our very own Melvin Carter, Sr. will receive the Leigh Kamman Jazz Award at the 9th annual JAZZFEST on Saturday, September 11, 3:00 PM, at the corner of Selby and Milton Avenues. Melvin’s early beginning was here at St. Peter Claver in the band begun by his dad at the request of the pastor, Fr. Keiff.  Mr. Carter collected a truckload of used musical instruments from parishioners and worked for weeks to polish and repair them.  The band became the toast of the neighborhood and some of the kids became nationally known musicians in big bands of the day.  Melvin went on to play trumpet in the Navy Band.  After the Navy, he worked as a Red Cap Porter in the Union Depot, followed by 27 years as a Custodial Engineer for the St. Paul Board of Education.  He continued to play in many local bands and in 1970 he started playing the organ at the Town and Country Club and played there for 10 years.  He has played with Beasely’s Big Band for 15 years, has had his own band on and off over the years, and continues to play at events sponsored by Episcopal Homes, where he currently resides. The JAZZFEST runs from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. with the awards ceremony at 3 p.m.  For more information, contact Janet Williams at 651-291-2567. Congratulations, Melvin!

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Have you checked out the "About SPC/History" section on our website lately?  If not, you are missing out on some great historical information about our parish.  Our website administrators have been working hard through our archives and have uploaded new articles about the history of our parish and school starting from its inception to more recent times (we are still working on uploading some old photos so check back to see those at a later time).  Some wonderful things have been done by so many great people of our parish past and present.  Check it out.  You won't be sorry.

Last Call for Boutique Crafters!

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

The SPC Quilters & Crafters Boutique Committee is sending out this reminder to all crafters that now is the time to let us know if you are going to be donating any hand-made items to our Boutique this year.  Our Boutique will be held on November 13 & 14 so time is closing in on building up our inventory and we need to hear from you ASAP so we can plan accordingly.  Tell other friends in your craft groups to consider donating their work as well.  Contact Celia Abbott at 651-274-9008 if you have items to donate or have questions about donations.  All proceeds go to St. Peter Claver School for field trips and other activities.

And another reminder….all crafters are always welcome to join our Monday night SPC Quilters & Crafters group from 6:00-8:00 PM.  It’s a great place to set aside time to work on your Boutique inventory, work independently on your own craft projects, and enjoy some great fellowship.  Stop by and observe – we are happy to answer any questions you may have.  We meet in the Church Hall.
